How Waiting Tables Prepared Me for Client Success

Think waiting tables can’t prepare you for Client Success?
Puh lease👇

💪 Ever served a charity dinner for “influential” neighborhood folks? That’s Client Success bootcamp right there.

Working tables at Mario’s on Arthur Ave during my Fordham University days wasn’t just about food, it was about mastering people skills.

🍝 Although the food was amazing and my roommates appreciated all the leftovers.

Terence Dohrmann and I would twirl the dessert cart around the dining room during parties, sparklers blazing, and learned fast that:
→ People go wild for Italian pastries (with a side of fire).
→ But more than that, they wanted attention now.

Each table had unique “clients” with their own:
→ Distinct needs.
→ Personalities.
→ Preferences.

Reading between the lines, handling curveballs, and making every guest feel like they’re the only focus – that’s the real Client Success training.

Top skills from waiting tables that laid the foundation:
→ Empathy – Quickly learn every guest’s unique needs.
→ Adaptability – Dinner rush? You adapt or drown.
→ Clear Communication – “Demitasse”? Manage expectations, no guesswork.
→ Patience – Some tables linger; you roll with it.
→ Problem-solving – Off-menu request? You make it happen.
→ Multitasking – Six tables at once? Just another night.
→ Relationship-building – Make everyone feel like family.
→ Attention to detail – It’s the little things.
→ Time management – Timely service, non-negotiable.
→ Resilience – Bounce back, every shift.

My boss, Joe Migliucci, always said, “Don’t think, just do.”
→ Everything revolved around the customer, no questions asked.

🙏❤️ Rest easy, Joe. Your wisdom lives on in our Client Success work today.

P.S. What job surprised you by prepping you for your career?
