πͺ Sales is 95% Preparation and 5% Execution.
Most people think itβs the other way around.
That’s why you gotta stay organized. π
Or your days will be like staring at the sun.
Many believe sales is all about the glamour.
Making lots of money and attending fancy dinners.
The reality is quite different.
Great salespeople meticulously prep:
β Before demos
β Client meetings
β Contacting prospects
β Engaging new partners
It also includes:
β Working with your extended team
β Prospecting activities
β Keeping up with CRM
β Admin (expenses, etc)
β Closing deals
β Enablement
β Networking
The 5% of execution is crucial.
It hinges on how well you prepare.
Staying organized is the key.
Here are some tips from Will McTighe to help you stay organized and get things done:
β Set Clear Goals: Decide what you want and rank these goals by importance. Focus on the top 2-3 and avoid distractions.
β Use a Prioritization Framework: Try frameworks like the 80/20 Rule, Eisenhower Matrix, or ABCDE method to make prioritization a habit.
β Adopt βHell Yeahβ or βNoβ: Do fewer things. If youβre not very excited about something, donβt do it.
β Plan Your Days the Night Before: Write down your tasks and decide what to focus on the next day.
β Schedule Time Blocks for Deep Work: Set specific 2-hour blocks for focused work without interruptions.
β Eliminate Distractions: Create an environment that minimizes interruptions.
This is going to help you sleep better.
Personally, I struggle with staying organized every day:
β Lots of moving parts
β Set my top 2-3 goals weekly
β Use Microsoft To Do to organize my tasks
π This is a sustainable strategy for me.
π It helps to prepare 95% of the time and execute 100% of the time.
