I was a fishmonger at 12 years old
It was the best job I ever had
It taught me how to be a great Customer Success Manager π
On my first day, I:
β Cleaned 25 pounds of stinky smelly squid π€’
β Mopped fish slime off the floor of the walk-in fridge π€’
β Washed the dumpster out back π€’
I loved it because:
β I couldnβt wait to help clients
A few months later, my time came:
β Mrs. McPhee ordered Β½ lb of flounder π
β She said the fish didnβt smell great π€’
β That wasnβt supposed to happen β
But this happened:
β My boss took it back, asked me to get him a fresh flounder π
β He filleted her fresh pieces on the spot πͺ
β She walked out with a huge smile π
I didnβt realize it, but I learned the most important lessons of customer success:
β Understanding Customer Needs π§
β Building Trust Through Expertise π€
β Personalizing the Experience β¨
β Handling Complaints with Grace π
β Going the Extra Mile π
β Learning from Feedback π
β Building Long Term Relationships β€οΈ
β The Importance of Teamwork π₯
After she left, he put the fish I originally wrapped up for her back out
And I asked him why did you do all that?
We knew the fish I gave her was fresh
He said thatβs just what she wanted π§
I learned valuable lessons every single day I worked there. π
P.S. What lessons from your youth do you apply to your job today? π‘
